About me

Janie!

My name is Jane Hamill and I make shiny things – mostly lampwork glass beads and jewellery – in my workshop in Chorley, Lancashire, in the good old UK :) I’ve always loved any kind of craftwork since I was tiny (although I was banned from using scissors when I gave our cat a new whisker design!). Then, when I was 15 and I worked out I could make nicer jewellery than any of the stuff in the shops…. then my friends saw what I made and started buying from me….

I followed a career in IT support – in the background I continued to make things but couldn’t dedicate as much time to being creative as I would have liked.

In 2001, I caught a virus from when I never recovered. I was eventually diagnosed with ME and could no longer work.

I now follow a strict pacing regime; plenty of planned periods of rest between carefully monitored periods of activity. Finding another job would be difficult because however much planning I do, my energy is unreliable. Sometimes I’m full of energy at 3am, sometimes 12pm – you can never tell!

But the silver lining of this cloud is that it means it helped me get out of a career I hated and can concentrate on my first love, creating beads and jewellery when I can and resting when I can’t!

Yes, the ME is a massive pain in the posterior but there is a silver lining to the cloud :)

Anyway, fingers crossed I’ll keep this blog going. Although I’ve been lampworking for 3 years now, I’m still making plenty of discoveries and there’s still loads to learn – I’m hoping to share this knowledge (as well as other random ramblings) with the followers of my blog…

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy my journeys with molten glass!
